The Primary Election is March 2, 2010. Why is it important to vote in the primary elections?

1. What is a primary election?

A primary election is a preliminary election that is held every two years in which voters choose their nominee in each district to represent their Party on the General Election ballot in November.

2. Who can vote in the primary election?

Everyone who is registered to vote in Bexar County by February 1 is eligible to vote in the Primary. In Texas, the Primary is semi-closed. Voters do not register by Party when they apply to vote. However, they must choose which Party’s ballot on which they want to vote in the Primary election.

3. When is the primary election?

Election Day is Tuesday, March 2, 2010. Early voting is from Tuesday, February 16 to Friday, February 26. See www.bexar.org/elections for details.

4. Where is the primary election?

Voters must vote at the polling location in their neighborhood on Election Day, such as Shavano Park City Hall. They may vote at any early voting location in Bexar County prior to Election Day.

5. Why is it important to vote in the Primary Election?

This is an extraordinary opportunity for the general public to participate in the election process. In other countries, the government or the political party organizations usually have the responsibility.

6. What is a precinct convention?

The purpose is to elect delegates and alternate delegates to attend the next level in the political process, which is the Senatorial District (SD) Convention. Participants will also propose resolutions for the SD Convention to consider. The Senatorial District Convention is an all day event scheduled for Saturday, March 20. The locations and times vary, although they are usually held in a location such as the Blossom Athletic Center. Delegates at the SD Convention then elect delegates for the State Convention.

7. Who should participate in the precinct convention?

Anyone who voted in the Primary is eligible to attend their Party’s convention. Therefore, the convention is closed because voting is a prerequisite to participation.

8. When is the precinct convention?

7:30 pm or after the last voter has voted.

9. Where is the precinct convention?

At the voter’s polling location.

10. Why is it important to participate in the precinct convention?

Voters get a chance to be heard twice.

11. What are dates to put on the calendar?

02/16/10 – Early Voting Begins

02/26/10 – Early voting ends

03/02/10 – Primary Election Day

We had a great rally yesterday at Alamo Plaza. We had at least 70 Patriots exercising their First Amendment rights to be heard. Moveon.org also had a group there doing the same thing.

We had people from the Boerne Tea Party and the New Braunfels Tea Party Patriots as well as lots o people just concerned about the direction the country is headed in.

There were several tourist in the plaza who came up to us and asked us what we doing and many supported our efforts.

We as a group are not against any type of health care reform. We are just against the government takeover of our health care system.

There is so much fraud, waste and abuse in our current system. That needs to be cleaned up first and then take a look at what we can fix next. In science you make one change at a time and determine the results. If you just make all kinds of changes at once do you really know what worked and what didn’t?

We urge everyone out there to make your voices heard. You Have A RIGHT To Be Heard!

By Christian Bove
Posted by Elizabeth Ruiz

Members of the San Antonio Tea Party are tracking down local Congressmen and demanding Town Hall meetings on Healthcare reform.

More than a dozen protestors gathered Wednesday outside the Marriott Rivercenter Hotel, where Congressman Charlie Gonzalez addressed the Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce.

“They better grow some courage and they better look us in the face ’cause we ain’t going away. They’re going away in 2010 if they don’t start listening to us,” said Steve Baysinger.

Gonzalez says everyone will have their say on healthcare if it’s done in an appropriate way. He hopes to have a town hall meeting without the disruptions that have been occuring at other gatherings across the country.

“People say it’s freedom of speech. I’ve never heard of freedom of speech defined by denying other people their right to speak,” said Gonzalez.

Gonzalez says his office is organizing a tele-town hall, as well as a public meeting, perhaps as early as next week.

“We’re still trying to get the venue because we don’t know how many people are going to show up. And the other thing, too, is there are people who are very serious about having a constructive dialogue and then there are others that are there just to disrupt. You’ve got to figure out how you’re going to handle that,” Gonzalez said.

Hundreds of protestors rallied on the steps of the Capitol Sunday, most demonstrating against President Barack Obama’s national health care initiative.Protestors chanted, “Kill the bill. Kill the bill.”

Only a handful of people were there to support the president’s plan.

“I’m a veteran. I would like to see everybody have a good health care program. That’d be fine, but find the money to pay for it and find the same one for the Congress and the Senate as they got for me and then I’d be happy,” San Antonio resident Amos Joel Jones said.

The crowd was estimated to be about 250 people

AUSTIN (KXAN) – Hundreds of people lined the stairs of the state capitol on Sunday afternoon to rally against President Obama’s health care plan.

About 200 people attended the afternoon protest. Most of the people said the President’s health care plan is too much government intrusion.

The plan is known as America’s Affordable Health Choices Act of 2009. It would give Americans a public health care option and allow those who are satisfied with their coverage to keep it.

“This is letting the people know that Obama and his cronies aren’t going to push this down our throats. We will fight it,” said John Edwards who traveled 200 miles to attend the protest.

Lizzette Sciski asked, “for Obama and Congress to sit there and think that we can just take a piece meal and take a number like it happens in so many countries, how about if they do it?”

In Washington, many lawmakers are taking the summer break as a time to speak to their constituents about health care reform.

President Obama warning Americans, however, that some are spewing misleading information and outlandish claims to defeat what
he calls “the best chance of reform we have ever had.”
