The San Antonio Tea Party finds it ironic that while local liberal elected officials are fighting for redistricting by claiming discrimination against Hispanics, they are ignoring President Obama’s insult against Hispanic Catholics by forcing contraception over their religious beliefs. Liberals like San Antonio Mayor Julián Castro, state representatives Mike Villarreal and Trey Fischer-Martinez, and U.S. Congressman Charles Gonzalez are quick to allege discrimination against Hispanics by Republicans, but they have not said a word about the HHS contraception mandate which many Catholics feel is an insult to the Catholic community. Congressional candidates Ciro Rodriguez and Sylvia Romo have also been very quiet on the issue of the contraception mandate.
“President Barack Obama has not just given the Catholic community a slap in the face, he is telling Hispanic Catholics to limit our families and forget our religious beliefs,” Robert Aguirre, president of the Catholic Association of Latino Leaders, said Jan. 31. He cited President Obama’s May 2009 speech at the University of Notre Dame in which the president said, “Let’s honor the conscience of those who disagree with abortion, and draft a sensible conscience clause.”
Surveys have historically shown that a majority of Hispanics, because of their faith, are conservatives and pro-life. The San Antonio Tea Party feels the silence by liberal Hispanic elected officials is more evidence of the cynicism liberal Hispanics politicians show toward the Hispanic community. These liberals Hispanics are more interested in supporting their political party than in serving or representing the people who elected them.

The Presidental race is toast. We need to start looking at what’s going on down ticket.
Step by step, inch by inch our rights are being eroded. Saying we respect religious beliefs while forcing people to participate in actions against those beliefs is a lie and no action allowed by he Constitution of the United States. If this action is allowed to stand, there is no longer a limit on governmental mandates regarding religious beliefs. I prefer NOT to study the “King Obama Authorized Holy Bible” yet under The current policies that is what will happen.
You are 110% correct, George. Castro, Villareal, T MF, Charlie, et. al., are nothing more than sell-outs to their “people.” Hypocrits all!
All fronts of the American institution are being attacked every day. Each and every day a little bit of the values we believe in are being assaulted and pushed back. Because we are such a tolerant nation, when we are shown what appears to be an injustice we want to right that injustice. Unfortunately too often we are being played and end up giving up our rights to those that seek power to impose their will upon us. You only need to look at history to see how we’ve been manipulated. There is a formula to how the left wins the day. Somewhere every day somebody is attacked and suffers violence for one reason or the other. That attack can be used by the media to sway public opinion and change policy. It started with the Civil rights movement and public opinion was changed so quickly and justly that this formula has been used against Americans over and over again regardless of whether it is truly righteous or not. Nuclear power and the environment, Animal rights, Gay rights, Welfare, Abortion, all appeal to our natural inclination for fairness in the world. But by letting the govt. centralize every aspect of our lives little by little it gives them more and more power every day. I believe by adding this mandate to health care will one day give the US Govt all the power they need to mandate the number of children we can have all in the name of healthcare costs or public safety, whichever they deem the law will allow them to pursue the least resistance to their control. Many churches have freely given up their voice because all of these issues are fought in the political arena but it’s time everyone even church leaders stand up and fight for our God given rights before the State takes them away.
So where does Obama get the power to DICTATE to churches or private companies what they will/will not include in an insurance policy? Perhaps this is the haughty and audacious answer from on high: “C’est légal parce que je le veux” (King Louis XVI). Translation: It is legal because it is my will.
People of all faiths who cherish liberty and freedom, wake up! Get off the sofa and let your voices be heard loud and clear. This coercive, un-Constitutional MANDATE must be stopped dead in its tracks!
When asked by what authority the Health Sec or Obama could dictate to a church or to a private company, what was to be included in an insurance policy, The President’s spokeman answered Obama and/or HHS had the authority under law by the health care mandate. We are seeing the assault on salt, sugar, holistic plants and cures, at the same time tomato sauce on pizza is being called a vegetable serving.
It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see that under this church/health care clash, it is only the first salvo. By this time next year, the HHS or WH can dicate no pork can be eaten, or only corn, no flour, tortillas are allowed for our breakfast tacos.
I am encouraged by your writings George. The hypocrisy of the left is pervasive throughout our community and our country. I, like many others, are fed up with liberal/progressive intrusion into the lives of our citizens. I accept my responsibility to stand up against such tyranny, and I am sure that thousands of other patriots feel the same. Thank you for your fighting spirit. Truly we are participating in the second American revolution, and like the first, tyranny will be crushed.
